Set of 4 horse studs for soft/deep ground Premier Equine

The spikes simply screw into a preformed hole inside your horse's shoe, made by your farrier. All our spikes require a standard 3/8" Whitworth preformed hole.

We recommend that you choose the best spike for the ground - soft or hard - and your performance requirements. We recommend using a rounded head on the inside edge of the shoe to avoid injury from opposite leg strikes.

Your cleat kit should contain a variety of different shaped cleats to suit your horse's needs, a tap to clean the cleat hole threads before use, a wrench and cleat plugs.

Stud holes should always be plugged when not in use to prevent stones and debris from entering or damaging the hole.

In addition, it may be worth investing in a magnetic metal bowl that prevents the studs from getting lost and is also useful for finding them when they fall into the grass.

We recommend checking the holes in your studs the day before a competition to ensure that the shoe threads are intact and that the studs apply properly.

After use, be sure to clean and store your cleats in a dry place.

We recommend using stud plugs to ensure that the preformed hole remains free of debris.

How to apply the stud

Before applying the stud, it is important to ensure that the preformed hole is free of debris. It may be helpful to use a tap to help remove any excess dirt.

Start by screwing in the inner stud, turning it clockwise with your fingers, making sure the stud neck threads penetrate the hole evenly.
Once the base of the stud is in contact with the shoe, it is recommended that you use a wrench and give the stud a final quarter turn to secure it in place.

Useful tips

It can be helpful to invest in a magnetic bowl when setting the cleats. This helps keep the cleats together when maneuvering around the horse and is also useful for finding cleats that may get lost in the ground.

Safety Instructions

You should always consult your farrier and veterinarian before applying cleats.
Damaged cleats should always be removed immediately.

We recommend removing the cleats immediately after riding.

Cleats should be introduced slowly and not used for extended periods of time to allow your horse to get used to the modified traction.
