The 3-ring bit effectively combines lateral support, leverage effect, and lifting effect in a single bit. The intensity of the effect is chosen through different rein attachment options. When attached to the lower ring, the active rein creates the effect of a short lever on the bit. The 3-ring bit is often used to test the horse's reaction to leverage.
