The bit allows the rider to act on the horse's head, neck and shoulders through the reins. The mouthpiece is placed in the horse's mouth to lead it, regulate its pace and direct it in the search for balance. Ideally, the bit should be as soft as possible in the horse's mouth. The choice of bit will depend on several parameters: the horse's morphology, the discipline practiced, the horse's reaction to its usual bit and the rider's search.
